As statewide meetings with beneficiary leaders continue to discuss the Nelson v. Hawaiian Homes Commission lawsuit and the DHHL Budget, many of our beneficiaries are asking the Department what beneficiaries can do to kōkua?

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands supports the intent of the proposed rule revision to provide that the economic analysis be completed and made available for public comment at the time of publication of a proposed rule to designate critical habitat.

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands would like to alert residents and motorists of roadway construction and lane closures which may impact commute times in the Waimea area.

Governor Neil Abercrombie, Hawai‘i County Mayor Billy Kenoi, community leaders, government officials, and future homesteaders joined Chair-designate Jobie Masagatani, Hawaiian Homes Commissioners and the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands in a groundbreaking ceremony today to begin construction on what will become the future home for 83 Hawaiian Home Lands beneficiaries and their families in the second phase of the Lālāmilo subdivision in Waimea, Hawai‘i.

The home blessing ceremony is the culmination of a ten-day Blitz Build, a self-help housing program offered by West Hawai'i's Habitat for Humanity, where homeowners build five homes in 10 days. Homeowners participate in the construction of their own homes, as well as the homes of their neighbors.
