The home blessing ceremony is the culmination of a ten-day Blitz Build, a self-help housing program offered by West Hawai'i's Habitat for Humanity, where homeowners build five homes in 10 days. Homeowners participate in the construction of their own homes, as well as the homes of their neighbors.

Governor Neil Abercrombie, Kaua‘i County Mayor Bernard Carvalho, community leaders, government officials, and future homesteaders joined Chairman-designate Jobie Masagatani, Hawaiian Homes Commissioners and the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands in a groundbreaking ceremony today to begin construction on what will become the future home for 51 Hawaiian Home Lands beneficiaries and their families in the second phase of the Pi‘ilani Mai Ke Kai subdivision in Anahola, Kaua‘i.

The Kakaina subdivision is located on seven acres of Hawaiian home lands approximately a half-mile mauka of the Waimānalo Shopping Center.

Transmission mains will provide water from the new 1.0 million gallon water reservoir and an existing water line along Kawaihae Road to the Lālāmilo subdivision.

The Hawaiian Homes Commission has approved a general lease to Kamehameha Schools to develop a state-of-the-art learning center on 40 acres in Mā‘ili as part of the Ka Pua Initiative, the schools’ long term commitment to excellent education, strong community, and a committed presence on the Wai‘anae Coast.
