Nānākuli Flood Channel Lateral Repairs
NĀNĀKULI – The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL), through its contractor, Kaikor Construction Group, Inc., will be conducting repairs and rehabilitation of the existing Nānākuli Flood Channel Lateral Repairs, included but not limited to: repairing and restoring Concrete Rubble Mortar (CRM) walls, repairing concrete cracks and spalls along the existing channel, removing debris from the channel floor, and repairing and replacing existing chain link fence along the existing channel.
The proposed project limits are from the northern limits of Haleakalā Avenue, running south behind Mokiawe Street and Ulei Loop until you get to Haleakalā Avenue again at the southern limit. There is also proposed work along the drainage easement that runs through Mano Avenue, Kauwahi Avenue, and Kawao Avenue.
The work schedule is as follows:
- Mobilization (Starting August 18th): This phase involves setting up the necessary equipment and materials on-site, preparing the area for the upcoming work, and ensuring all safety measures are in place.
- BMP Installation (August 19th to 22nd): Best Management Practices (BMP) installations will be carried out to control erosion, sediment, and stormwater runoff. This includes setting up barriers, silt fences, and other measures to protect the environment during construction.
- Project Layout (August 25th to September 15th): During this period, the project layout will be established, which involves marking out the areas where work will be performed, setting up work zones, and ensuring everything is in place for the actual repair work.
- Actual Repair Works (Starting September 26th): The main repair work will commence on Segment 1 of the project (at the northern limits of the project). The project has nine proposed project segments.
Area residents should expect to see Kaikor employees, as well as DHHL’s construction management consultant, Hawaiʻi Engineering Group employees, along the drainage channel and easements. There will also be typical construction noise during this period, as well as machinery and equipment running along the laterals.
Work will take place Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. An additional mail out will be sent to residents bordering the drainage channel laterals with more information.
