DHHL SEEKS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2025 LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 21, 2024

HONOLULU – The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) invites beneficiary proposals for recommended legislative actions to be included in its 2025 DHHL legislative package.

Every year, the department prepares and submits legislative proposals for inclusion in the governor’s administrative package for the next session of the Hawaiʻi State Legislature.

DHHL seeks proposals that align with good public policy to enhance DHHL’s operations, programs, regulations, processes, budget, and/or resources. The aim is to generate positive outcomes for the department, its trust, and trust beneficiaries while addressing any existing deficiencies.

Authors of proposals should remember any amendments to the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, 1920, requires U.S. Department of the Interior review and may need the consent of the United States Congress prior to implementation.

DHHL staff will assess all submittals to determine which proposals will be put forward for the governor’s consideration. Selected proposals will undergo an approval process overseen by the Hawaiian Homes Commission before submission. Proposals not submitted to the governor may be introduced separately from the administrative package.

Beneficiaries, described as native Hawaiians as defined in the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, 1920 may submit proposals via an online form posted on the department’s website.

All proposals must be submitted by July 31, 2024.
