Dear Resident:

SUBJECT: NOTICE: Waimanalo Lessee – Waiokeola Stream (Dirt) Drainage Channel, Oahu

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands has contracted with Henry’s Equipment to perform vegetation clearance, including tree removal, adjacent to the fence line of the drainage channel running along the backside of your property and on Wong’s Farm.

During this operation, a large grinding machine and related equipment will be utilized, resulting in significant noise and dust emissions. Wood chips generated by the grinder may also disperse into your yard. To mitigate any inconveniences, we recommend keeping your windows and doors closed during the operation. The contractor is committed to clearing vegetation without causing damage to the fence, channel wall, and vegetation within the channel. This proactive measure ensures unobstructed water flow during heavy rains and serves as a precautionary fire break.

Work hours are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, and continuing through the end of March 2024.

We kindly request your kokua (cooperation) during this period while our vendor carries out brush and tree removal along the fence line. We understand that this process may cause temporary inconvenience and apologize for any disturbance it may cause.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Richard A. Speer, Project Manager, Land Development Division, Public Works, at 620-9287 or 282-2988. Your understanding and cooperation are highly appreciated.

Mahalo for your understanding and cooperation.

             Sincerely,

            Stewart Matsunaga, Acting Administrator
