For The Record: Mortgages
Posted on Nov 8, 2013 in Media ReleasesFOR THE RECORD
Aloha Beneficiaries,
Contrary to what has been said and alleged recently by third-party individuals, Castle & Cooke Mortgage LLC does not issue any mortgages on DHHL lands.
As for the other allegations being made, the department’s new foreclosure prevention and loss mitigation contractor previously did several years of work for the department under the former Home Ownership Assistance Program (HOAP) (pronounced “Hope”). She brings with her a proven track record of success for our beneficiaries and our trust during that time. The contract was awarded through an open, competitive procurement process under Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 103D through which proposals were solicited and received, reviewed, scored and ranked according to the benefits they would provide our families.
Likewise, the training of our staff and including other parties such as Native Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) federal credit unions, the Hawaii Home Ownership Center, and the Pakolea Community Development Corp’s Kula no na Po’e o Hawai’i in foreclosure prevention and loss mitigation strategies provides greater choice and venues for our beneficiaries who need that type of assistance. The Department understands that our beneficiaries are very akamai and diverse and do not only seek help from a few Native Hawaiian organizations. The more organizations, Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian alike, that are trained in providing help to our people who need the support, the greater the chances of success for our beneficiaries and their families.
