BC Rule Change

East Hawaiʻi Hawaiian Homes Commissioner Wally Ishibashi (far left), DHHL staff, and Big Island Hawaiian homestead leaders gather for one of the beneficiary consultation meetings on Hawaiʻi Island.

DHHL staff recently completed a statewide round of beneficiary consultation meetings to discuss proposed rules to implement an amendment to the Hawaii Administrative Rules that would allow an existing revenue-producing general lease to be extended an additional 20 years.

The amendment would encourage renovation and reinvestment in existing leased properties allowing DHHL to generate additional revenue for residential development.  Hundreds of beneficiaries turned out to participate in these meetings and to share their manaʻo.

Deadline to submit comments regarding the proposal for a 20-year lease extension on General Lease properties is September 30, 2013.
