Kumuhau Welcomes Six New ʻOhana

WAIMĀNALO, OʻAHU – Our Waimānalo Hawaiian Homes community is growing thanks to a partnership with Honolulu Habitat for Humanity.

Today, six Hawaiian ʻohana celebrated the start of construction on their self-help homes in the Kumuhau subdivision of Waimānalo.

Congratulations to Nina Ah Yee & Micah McClinton, Kala & Shanti Gomes, Levi & TJ Joseph, Henry & Florita Kam, Kahala Kane & Sharownn Wong, and Angie, Nolan, & Alyssa Lai and Relda Palenapa!

The Ah Yee, Gomes, Joseph, Kam, Kane, and Lai ʻOhana were joined by State Senator Laura Thielen, Councilman Ikaika Anderson, Hawaiian Homes Commissioner Kama Hopkins, Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Deputy to the Chair Darrell Young, Honolulu Habitat board members, staff, and volunteers, at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Kumuhau project is the biggest build to date for Honolulu Habitat, and today’s event marks their 25th anniversary. Since 1988, Honolulu Habitat has built 67 affordable homes for Oʻahu families.
