Governor Neil Abercrombie visited Department of Hawaiian Home Lands staff including Jobie Masagatani, DHHL Interim Director and Chair-Designate for the Hawaiian Homes Commission.

The informal meet and greet at DHHL headquarters in Kapolei comes just two days after a Senate committee recommended approving Gov. Abercrombie’s nominee to run DHHL.

“I have complete confidence in her capacity and complete confidence in her abilities, and more importantly I have complete confidence in her heart. Her heart is directed towards the betterment of the Hawaiian people,” said Gov. Abercrombie to the 70 or so DHHL employees gathered at Hale Pono’ī in Kapolei.

Gov. Abercrombie praised DHHL staff for their continued hard work and determination in helping advance the Native Hawaiian people as envisioned by Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana’ole.

“I will do anything and everything to support (DHHL) because together I know we can make all of Hawai’i proud of the fact that this group at this time in our history was up to the task,” added Gov. Abercrombie.

DHHL staff expressed their deepest mahalo for the overwhelming support the Governor and his cabinet have shown for Masagatani, who is currently up for confirmation by the Hawai’i State Senate.
