Board Alive! Best Practices for
Nonprofit Board Governance

Effective board governance is critical to ensuring that a nonprofit organization delivers on its mission,
manages its resources effectively, and maintains its reputation. This half-day workshop provides board
members with tools to help them become more engaged and informed and to fully understand the
commitment of serving on a nonprofit board. Topics covered are:

  • The Nonprofit Sector Context
  • Essential Board Functions
  • Core Legal & Financial Responsibilities of the Board and Risk Management Strategies
  • Dynamic Teamwork: The Board/Staff Relationship
  • How to Build a Strong Board
  • Creating Organizational Quality (Board Self-Assessment and Strategic Planning)
  • Resources for Boards and Organizations

Workshop time: 12 noon – 4:00 PM

This workshop is open to the following:

  • Homestead community associations and other beneficiary organizations
  • Homestead community residents
  • Other nonprofits sponsored by a beneficiary organization

*Beneficiary organizations are encouraged to bring community partners that serve native Hawaiians

Note: priority given to homestead community associations and other beneficiary organizations

To register:

  • Please complete registration form. Registration deadline: 4:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2015
  • Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Seating is limited to 30 participants.
  • This training is provided at no cost to beneficiaries. Note that refreshments will not be provided at any training sessions. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments.
