WAIMĀNALO, OʻAHU — Hawaiian Homes Commission Chairman-Designate Jobie Masagatani and Department of Hawaiian Home Lands staff met with beneficiary leaders at Ka Hoʻoilina Na Kūhiō Community Center in Waimānalo Wednesday night to discuss the Nelson V. Hawaiian Homes Commission court case as well as the Department’s current budget proposal.

In early 2012, the Hawaii Supreme Court provided a ruling on the Nelson v. HHC  lawsuit that could greatly impact DHHL’s use of trust funds in a positive way, making the upcoming 2013 Legislative Session a critical one for the future of the Hawaiian home lands trust and its beneficiaries.

The Waimānalo meeting was the first in a round of statewide meetings being held throughout the month of January on the Nelson case.
